Frequently Asked Questions about Full Day Fishing Charter in Arnhem Land

Does Nhulunbuy fishing charters rely on the tides?

No, the charters can leave on any tide. The Melville Bay Boat Ramp and fishing facilities in Nhulunbuy, East Arnhem Land, are great on any tide. If you are at the Boat Club, this can be difficult in very low tides, which is not very often.

Children are welcome as long as they are under parental supervision at all times and are over the age of 5. The charter boat has a large canopy to protect them from the hot Nhulunbuy sun; there are stairs at the front and rear to help them get on and off the boat. The experience is for everyone, young and old.

East Arnhem (Nhulunbuy) is in the tropics, so you will encounter rain, which usually makes the water calm and the fish bite. The charter boats have a full canopy, so you can fish and stay relatively dry. If it is too dangerous that it would make the charter unsafe, The Operator will postpone the departure till the weather clears or cancel the trip. If this happens, they will contact all anglers before departure time and organise refunds or rebooks on the next available charter.

You can bring alcohol on board; however, The Operator does ask that anglers try to bring cans where possible. Please note that you do require a permit to purchase takeaway alcohol in Nhulunbuy, and the usual RSA rules apply.

The fishing charters are BYO lunch and snacks. The Operator does provide eskies to store any food or drinks bought along.

The charter leaves from Melville Bay Road boat ramp Nhulunbuy near Sea Swift. However, the Operator can also do pick-ups from the Boat Club (AKA Gove Yacht Club). Please let them know in advance if you wish to be picked up from another location.

If you have a lucky fishing rod or lure, bring it along. Just let The Operator know you are bringing them so they can ensure they have room.

There is an abundance of wildlife in Arnhem Land. The crew often see pods of dolphins, manta rays, turtles, sea snakes and many other varieties of sea life. They have even had a whale shark come to check out the boat.

There is a wide variety of fish in the gulf, so there is everything from Mackerel and Giant Trevally to Coral Trout, Golden Snapper, Red Emperor, Blackjew fish and loads more. It will depend on tides and the moon phases as to what will be best for that day.

No, there are no recreational fishing licence requirements in the Northern Territory. However, there are still size and bag limits that The Operator must adhere to. East Arnhem Land does require you to have a general permit to be in Nhulunbuy; however, The Operator does not require a permit for fishing charters.

The experienced and knowledgeable captain and crew will take you to the best fishing spots and provide all the equipment you need to catch the big one! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced angler, they cater to all skill levels.
